O Αλέξης Καρπούζος είναι φιλόσοφος, στοχαστής και συγγραφέας, παρακολούθησε μαθήματα φιλοσοφίας, επιστημολογίας, κοινωνικών και ανθρωπιστικών επιστημών στη φιλοσοφική και νομική σχολή Αθηνών, επίσης συμμετείχε στα μαθήματα και τις ομιλίες οντολογίας και μεταφυσικής των φιλοσόφων Κορνήλιου Καστοριάδη και Κώστα Αξελού. Eρεύνησε, δοκίμασε και πειραματίστηκε με τις σύγχρονες παιδαγωγικές θεωρίες και τις ψυχολογίες της μάθησης, όπως και με τις μοντέρνες ψυχαναλυτικές θεωρίες.
Έχει εκδώσει 15 βιβλία στην ελληνική γλώσσα και 8 στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Δοκίμια και άρθρα του έχουν μεταφραστεί και εκδοθεί σε πολλές γλώσσες, στα Γαλλικά, τα Γερμανικά, τα Ιταλικά, τα Ρωσικά, στα Πορτογαλικά, στα Ινδικά. Συνεργάζεται με κοινωνικά κέντρα, πανεπιστημιακά τμήματα, ερευνητικά ινστιτούτα και διατηρεί επαφές με επιστήμονες, ποιητές και καλλιτέχνες σ’ όλο τον κόσμο.
